Ex-Shods Guitarist Mod, Bad and Dangerous to Know
by David Porter
Sweaty Massachusetts rockers The Shods recently disbanded, but Lowell's loss is the nation's gain. Welcome to Your First Time With The Details is a collection of ten pistol-packing pop gems from Dave Aaronoff and The Details. Aaronoff, former rhythm guitarist and sometime songwriter for The Shods, obviously needed a bit of breathing room from his old band. Your First Time With The Details bristles with same perspiring shimmer of The Shods' finest moments, but it's a bit sadder, smarter, and sexier. These are lean, muscular melodies reminiscent of every band you love, including the Beatles, Elvis Costello, the Jam, the Stray Cats and the Who. Aaronoff departed from The Shods last year and spent last summer at Wooly Mammoth, the Boston recording studio owned by Dave Minehan, formerly of The Neighborhoods. Corin Ashley of The Pills, former Shods keyboardist Jay Buckley, and Minehan joined Aaronoff on Your First Time With The Details. The album has been released by the Boston label Lunch Records, home of BLEU and Orbit. The first single from Your First Time With The Details, "Careful Where You Step," can be heard on WFNX, Boston.
